A leader can only be successful if those he or she leads are successful. None of these accomplishments could have been made without the commitment & passion of the men and women of the Hill County Sheriff’s Office and local government officials.
Digital Radio Conversion
- Vastly improved radio coverage
- More secure Radio transmissions
- Funded by a Grant obtained by the office of Emergency Management
Body Worn Cameras (BWC)
- Valuable in the collection of evidence
- Transparency in day to day encounters with our citizens
JPX Less Lethal
- Replaced outdated tasers with JPX less lethal OC delivery system
- Handles multiple threats at once
- Reloadable high tech OC pepper delivery system
Vehicle Fleet
- In 2016 our vehicle fleet was outdated and a danger to our deputies and citizens
- Retired our highest mileage front line patrol vehicles and this was done all within our existing budget
- In 2019 we presented a budget proposal for a fleet management plan that was approved by the Commissioners Court and will ensure that our fleet will never fall into disrepair again
Records Management
- All stored records were scanned into a searchable computerized format thus freeing up room for extra work space for CID Investigators and their Administrative Staff
Mobile Data Computers
- Latest version of Panasonics Toughbook computers to handle the abuse that a mobile computer is exposed to
- Installed in our vehicle fleet for deputies to complete their reports in the field
- Purchase made with budgetary savings
New RMS/ARS CAD System
- A more efficient and robust system–allows deputies to run license, registration and warrant checks from vehicle
- Sends up to date info to responding deputies
- Automated Vehicle location feature
- Overlay current weather maps to track storms and warn first responders
- Unanimously approved by Commissioner’s Court all within existing budget
- Implementation has begun, will take 12 -14 months.
Global Tel-Link (GTL) Program Highlights
- Allows inmates to access educational programs to prepare for GED
- Teaches inmates life skills to help with employment upon release
- Affords inmates access to law library to prepare for defense and/or the appeal process
- Allows video visitation (for a fee) for inmates whose loved ones are far away or aren’t physically able to visit
- Once an inmate’s loved on is vetted through the system, they will be able to send and receive SCREENED messages
Incentive Package
- Attracts New Hires
- Retain current employees with certification and education pay as well as specialized skills pay along with longevity pay
- As a result of the longevity pay, all other county employees now receive longevity pay.
Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grand
- Applied for and received a grant to purchase resistant vests for our deputies
- This grant requires a mandatory wear policy, which we already have in place
New Positions
- Approved for an additional 911 dispatcher that will assist us in maintaining adequate staffing. HCSO currently dispatches for Whitney, Hubbard, Itasca, Hill County, TX DPS, Game Wardens, Hill County Constables, and 17 Volunteer Fire Departments.
- Two additional transport Deputies
- New Environmental Deputy (Hill County is approx. 1000 sq. miles with between 35-40K people) and this new deputy will investigate illegal dumping and use Chapter 343 of the Texas Health & Safety Code to abate any nuisance properties that have become a health hazard
